RYA Motor Cruising Solent and South CoastWe offer the RYA Motor Cruising Scheme on-board our Princess V 40
Sports Cruiser Pronto MCA Coded to Category 2 up to 60 miles offshore.
She is powered by twin diesel KAD 44 260 HP EDC engines and is on
outdrives so highly responsive and manoeuvrable .We also have available
to us a 9.8 0n Twin Shaft Beneteau Antares MCA Cat 2
. Our Motor Cruising courses run on the last week of
every month Monday to Friday we teach a maximum of three to a course,
this allows the students to have more time on the helm during the course
. One to one tuition can be arranged at £500 per day this will include a
Instructor and a crew member so you can maximise your time at the helm
and running the boat. WHERE ARE WE?
We are based in East Cowes Marina at the heart of the Solent which offers an ideal training area
for the Helmsman's Certificate , Day Skipper Certificate and the Yachtmaster Coastal Certificate and Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate. All courses are run with a maximum of 3 students, a minimum of two students is required for a course to run or you can choose the one to one option. All mooring fees, fuel, wet weather gear and use of lifejackets are included in the course fee.

OWN BOAT TUITION UK AND WORLDWIDE
If you have your own boat and would like one of our Instructors to come to you, then the Instructors
fee is £190 per day . For own boat tuition abroad travel and expenses are not included in the fee. This is an ideal way of sharing the costs between yourself and friends. We do request to see a copy of your insurance certificate and that you inform your insurers you are undertaking a training course on-board your own vessel. We also require the minimum amount of safety equipment to be on-board Flares , First Aid Kit , Life jackets , Fire Extinguishers , VHF, Charts (up to date) and your boat must be in good working order, please contact us for more details.

For 2013 the RYA have introduced a new course this is a pilot scheme so the syllabus may change in the future ideal for those who mainly act as crew.
START MOTOR CRUISING £175 per person minimum of two required
Introduction to the skills required to being useful crew and gain an understanding of how they can assist the helm.
Minimum age: 8
Duration: 1 day as a stand-alone course, or 2 days when accompanying other courses.

RYA HELMSMAN'S COURSE (cost per person £450 - minimum of two required)
Duration 2 days
No previous experience is required but we would recommend you obtain the VHF DSC radio certificate and the RYA Basic Navigation and Safety Course either before or after your training.
Course content:
Boating safety, helmsman ship , boat handling , Introduction to engine maintenance
rules of the road, securing to a buoy , berthing alongside, Emergency Procedures .
Ability after the course:
Competent to handle a motor cruiser of specific type in sheltered waters.
INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE COURSE (cost per person £625 - minimum of two required)
Duration 3 days
Suggested previous experience RYA Helmsman's course VHF DSC, RYA Basic Navigation and Safety Course
Course Content:
Safety , boat handling , navigation, pilotage, berthing alongside, picking up a mooring buoy,
Man overboard recovery.
Ability after the course:
Skipper a motor cruiser by day in sheltered waters.

RYA DAY SKIPPER COURSE (cost per person £830 - minimum of two required - includes ICC)
Duration 4 days or 2 weekends .
Suggested previous experience Helmsman Certificate and Day Skipper Shore Based ,VHF DSC
Course content:
Pilotage , boat handling , seamanship and navigation a night passage will also be undertaken.
Ability after the course:
Skipper a motor cruiser in familiar waters by day.
New for 2013 The RYA have introduced a follow on to the Dayskipper Course for those that wish to learn how to navigate higher level, and gain additional skills prior to taking the Yachtmaster Coastal course. Or as a simple bolt on to your existing Dayskipper practical certificate , this is a pilot scheme so the syllabus may change in the future.
MOTOR CRUISING ADVANCED PILOTAGE £450 per person minimum of two required
Recommended prior learning: VHF/SRC, First Aid, knowledge to the level of Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory
Minimum age: 17

RYA YACHTMASTER COASTAL COURSE (cost per person £1000 - minimum of two required)
Duration 5 days
Suggested previous experience Navigation up to Coastal/Yachtmaster Shore based Certificate, Day Skipper Practical ,VHF DSC, First Aid and Diesel Engine Maintenance course 15 days sea time (2 as Skipper) 300 miles and 8 night hours.
Course content:
Skippering techniques for coastal and offshore passages by day and night all berthing and unberthing situations, picking up a mooring buoy and actions to be taken in an emergency.
Ability after the course:
Skipper a motor cruiser on coastal passages by day and night .
CERTIFICATES OF COMPETENCE YACHTMASTER COASTAL/OFFSHORE ONLY OBTAINED BY AN EXAMINATION
This is booked via the RYA or the school can arrange an examiner on your behalf please let us know if you require this before booking your course. You will need to provide a boat for the exam you can hire the school boat for £200 per day per person (based on minimum of 2 ) to include fuel and food. Or as an alternative we recommend you attend a Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore preparation course held over five days with the examiner joining the boat on day five. An ideal way to hone your skills be it navigation or boat handling what ever your needs we can tailor the course to suit you, cost £1,100 minimum of two required.
RYA/MCA YACHTMASTER COASTAL
Previous experience and minimum sea time:
30 day's sea time 2 day's as skipper 8oo miles and 12 night hours. This is reduced to 20 day's and 400 miles 2 day's as skipper and 12 night hours if you hold the Yachtmaster Coastal course completion certificate.
Form of examination:
Practical
Certification required before examination:
Restricted (VHF only) Radio Operators Certificate First Aid Certificate, Sea Survival ML5A Medical form completed prior to booking your examination.
Minimum duration of examination:
6 to 10 hours for one candidate and 8 to 14 for two.
RYA/MCA YACHTMASTER OFFSHORE
Previous experience and minimum sea time:
50 days sea time 5 day's as skipper 2500 miles 5 passages over 60 miles including 2 overnight as skipper .
Form of examination:
Practical
Certification required before examination:
Restricted (VHF only) Radio Operators Certificate , First Aid Certificate, Sea Survival , ML5A Medical Form to be completed prior to booking your examination.
Minimum Duration of Exam:
8 to 12 hours for one candidate and 10 to 12 hours for two
MARITIME COASTGUARD AGENCY (MCA) CODING FOR PLEASURE VESSELS SCV1

BOAT DELIVERIES
The fee includes skipper and crew but not expenses .
Expenses will be travel, food , flights , taxis. We will always travel by the most direct route and if due to mechanical breakdown or adverse weather we cannot continue on schedule,we will reduce the fee by 50% while stuck in harbour.
A charge of £200 per day for passages of less than 350 miles plus expenses ,for passages over 350 then the mile rate is £1.75 plus expenses.
For assisted passages the rate is £150 per day plus expenses .
CRUISING IN COMPANY
Every year we undertake a cruise around mid July, usually to the Channel Islands or the West Country we invite previous students to join us or new ones and make no charge for this . All we ask is that you have a minimum of Dayskipper Practical and that you will be responsible for your own navigation and safety this is a great way to meet new people and give you the confidence of travelling further afield our Instructors are on hand to give any help or advice during the trip.
